Here's The Lowdown.
You are being commissioned to create a MOC Vortixx. I will be judging the entries.

Your MOCs can be any color, male or female, any weapons you want.

The only restrictions are that the MOC must resemble the general Vortixx: tall, lean, Vahki faced.

You must name your MOC and give them an occupation.

Post a front, profile, and stance picture as a response to this tread.

The competition will end June Twentieth. I will then rank them and post the results.

I would give a prize, but I do not own anything worth awarding. So the winner gets bragging rights.

I might start another contest after i have judged this one so look out.

Have fun and happy MOCing!

After much deliberation, Saynok, I have risen to your challenge. Smug Smile

Saynok's MOC Contest Craono10

(I apologize that this last image is not rotated; I attempted several times to fix it, without success.)

During the height of the League of Six Kingdoms, an alliance of unusually politically-minded Vortixx traders agreed to assassinate the Barraki Mantax. The warlord's security was nearly impregnable, and so it was determined that the only way to get a weapon close enough to him to fulfill their commitment was to disguise the weapon as a sentient creature. The Vortixx devised a method of converting one of their own kind into a walking bomb, which they were eager to test.

Naturally, none of the conspirators volunteered to sacrifice themselves, and so another Xian was selected and deceived into believing that he had been augmented by the technology and made into a stronger warrior - which could be seen as true. It came time, however, for this Vortixx to face the trial of the Mountain: a Xian ritual in which two Xians are sent to climb a sentient, carnivorous Mountian, and one of the pair usually comes back alone. The Vortixx alliance recognized that their weapon would have to survive, or else their work would have been a waste, and so they determined that he would be protected, and his partner, killed.

That partner was a white-armored Vortixx called Craonoxes.

The alliance found one of the carnivorous crevices of the Mountain and rigged a mechanical extension to easily trap any Vortixx which wandered near. The weaponized Vortixx was instructed to lead Craonoxes into the crevice to escape a Rahi beast, which had been planted by the conspirators. When the time came, Craonoxes followed his friend into the pit, perhaps out of trust, or perhaps out of ignorance.

Unfortunately for the alliance's ambitions, the Mountain seized the living weapon, first. The explosive energy was released, killing the Vortixx before the Mountain could consume him. Craonoxes was caught in the chains and spines of the conspirator's death trap, and was hit by the untested radiation from the weapon. While he waited in agony for the Mountain to pull him closer to its maw, he found that the explosion had somehow caused the Mountain to lose all interest in him; perhaps it was a side-effect of the radiation, or perhaps, the Mountain feared that attempting to eat him again would further injure it, for it, too, had been caught in the blast.

Craonoxes remains on the Mountain, forever bound by the chains meant to kill him, saved by the efforts of the Vortixx for which he had been targeted. Still, the Mountain and all of its dangers stand to test the ambitious among the Vortixx, but if none of the existing hazards claim their lives, then the blade of Craonoxes will.

* * *
I created Craonoxes for four reasons. Firstly, I wanted to use the Makuta Phantoka rib cage to create a skeleton-like fiend. Second, I wanted to make Pridak's sword, which was already quite menacing, blatantly threatening. Third, I wanted to build a gear function into a model with a custom torso. Fourthly, I saw your contest after the torso was already finished, and, since I had been considering a Vahki head, amongst others, I converted him into a Vortixx with relative ease.

He was a pleasure to build, Saynok. I leave him to your scrutiny. Spectral

I like the look of this one. He is a bit stocky, but I bet tugging on chains all your life will give you a workout. No Worries about the last image. You also get bonus points for the short story. Craonoxes looks like a very complex build. I will definitely take this into consideration when judging. For now though you are ranked first and last, as there no other entries so far. I am happy to hear that you had fun and decided to compete. Thank you for your entry.

Initially, it was my intention not to enter the running in this particular contest. It is not typical for me to build Vortixx, and I rarely enter contests. However, to my surprise, I discovered that I had no excuse - I had had a fully-built Vortixx among my other neglected models, all along. (I have not built anything of worth in some time and had forgotten my previous few.) It is comparatively a very simple build, being the result of a single day of experimentation from months ago, but it must be noted that it is much more difficult to execute a skeletal and complex creation than a bulky and complex creation. Please ignore any clear System parts that may appear; they are only supports.

With that, I give you Kiihkteis, a Vortixx Shaman.

A minor male in a small production village of Xia, Kiihkteis was a grudging and rather lazy laborer who once forged modulator parts for plasma weapons and self-sharpening blades. His work was merely as a gear in Xia's vast manufacturing machine, and he was pushed to increase output from his forge as the League of Six Kingdoms expanded ever farther. It turned out that his mean streak extended beyond insolence, and though he was not caught for it, he began to disrupt production in his town: closing his own forge for "repairs", insisting on inspections of every piece of handiwork, and once literally sealing shut every front door in the village.

What he was caught for was yet more incriminating. It came to light that an unspecified Toa - whom the Xian authorities could not identify or locate - had been collaborating with Kiihkteis on means of mass-manufacturing weapons that would have elemental power. Given Xia's business, the true crime was concealing the designs.

However, before sentencing, Kiihkteis jury-built a set of shaman-type armor and broke out of his village, leaving destroyed buildings in his wake. Reports came quickly that he had taken up residence somewhere along the base of the Mountain, but he remained elusive, roaming ghostlike with the help of his Air-type armor shell. As his shamanic abilities grew stronger, perhaps due to deformed Kanohi of Summoning he melted into the rest of his armor, he began to experiment with drawing the attention of the Mountain and Kanohi Dragon, as well as calling to other bizarre creatures.

It is assumed that Kiihkteis remains on Xia due to the occasional exotic creatures and lethal traps encountered at the Mountain's base. When last seen, he still appeared as a skeletal gray-white figure who walked on pointed feet.

Hm, another skeletal, Pridak-bladed, rebel Vortixx. It seems that Craonoxes has some competition, after all.

Creative torso, slick leg design - although it seems like that armor would severely restrict his mobility? - solid arms, and fierce-looking weaponry. If this is an experimental build, I'd say it's a success. I just hope it isn't too successful! :P

Spectral, thank you. I will note that the leg armor as arranged in the pictures does restrict leg mobility, hence his hovering rather than walking. However, it can in fact be unfolded to the sides to allow "normal" locomotion.

Saynok, I do believe these are respectable names given that we are dealing here with BIONICLE. "Craonoxes" and "Kiihkteis" seem no more ridiculous than "Xia" or "Vortixx", in the first place.

I was not completely serious about the names.
I'm just having trouble figuring out how to pronounce them.
You can name your MOCs whatever you want.
I just think the names are funny.

Does anyone care to hear the origins of Cranoxes' name, then?

If not, you may discard the rest of this post.

The idea of a Vortixx being stranded on the Mountain and miraculously surviving came to me as soon as his torso was done. I wanted to capture the cruelty of the Vortixx, and so I had the idea for my model to be a sacrifice. Originally, he was to be sacrificed to the Mountain, but I quickly realized that didn't make any sense. Then, I considered that his partner during the climb would sacrifice him, but that made a little too much sense. I settled on the alliance idea, somewhere in the middle.

In any case, I started playing around with the word "sacrifice", but before I knew it, the "cr-" sound led me to "Cronus", the Ancient Greek Titan, which I melded with "Knossos", and before I knew it, I had Cronossos. A few tweaks which I felt made the name more Xian, and I had Craonoxes.

The correct pronunciation would be "Cra-" as in "crayon", "-o-" as in "zone", "-no-" as in "no", "-x-" as in "hoax", and "-es" as in "dress", with an emphasis on the "-no-".

Saynok, very well then.

Spectral, you left little choice in the matter of hearing the name's origin. All I will note is that I did not expect the rather "soft" long vowel sounds that you chose.

As for Kiihkteis: the "ky" sound as in "sky", "hk" as an almost-separated consonant on its own, "tay" as the sound in "tame", and "is" as the sound in "bliss".

I apologize if I offended you guys with the comment.
I did not think that you would take it that seriously.
They sound okay now since I am saying them correctly.

No offense was taken, Saynok. I apologize if my reply did in fact seem overly serious itself.

I do look forward to the eventual outcome of this contest.

Regarding your MOC, Maestro, I like the skinny torso and the head ornaments. I definitely like how this one is more lean than the last, however it is not as complex.
I am currently developing a rubric to grade them by.
So far, I will take into account: creativity, complexity, style, weapons and armor, and originality.
Each criteria will be graded on a scale from 1-10 and short back-story gets 5 points extra credit.

Seven days left on the contest. I will not accept any more entries after the 20th.
